Gate Design
Initial design, based on several criteria, is a critical element of bringing your new gate to life. At Estate Advancements, we listen carefully to what you are looking for, add our vast expertise to the mix, and come to your home to assess the installation site. Any physical restrictions or considerations of the proposed location should be included early in the process. Preferred and suitable materials, whether steel, wood, glass or other, along with a swing or sliding design will be discussed. Once all these elements are determined, we take this information and bring it to life. We present you with scale CAD (computer-aided design) drawings based on our discussions. You can either pick from our designs or further fine tune with your feedback if necessary.
Residential Driveway Gates
Residential gates are our specialty. We feature two main types of gates: gates that swing open and gates that slide open.
Swing gates open in toward the property and can be activated by a remote control, key fob or keypad. Usually they are attached to either masonry/brick columns on each side of the driveway, or can also be attached to free-standing metal posts. Both of these options are securely anchored into the ground, so frost or other issues will not affect its operation. Swing gates are typically taller than slide gates, and therefore provide a better security deterrent. Slide gates, as the name suggests, slide across your driveway on rollers or a cantilever system that sits just above the ground so that no track is required on your driveway. These gates can either slide directly across or slide telescopically. Sliding gates are especially suited for uneven driveways, such as gravel, or driveways that are on either an uphill or downhill angle. Gate Posts & Masonry
Gates can be hinged from a steel post or a masonry pillar. When we use steel hinge posts we typically use a 24″ sonotube foundation installed to a depth of 6 feet below grade. While this is much more that is usual in the industry, we know the cost difference of more concrete compared to a tilting post is an easy decision.
When constructing gates for masonry pillars we have a unique system that we have used for 25 years. A heavy steel hinge post is cast into the foundation from the footing up, and is constructed to completely bear the weight and load of the gate. This method ensures the stonework is not bearing the gates weight.
